Outgrowing their PEO: After growing to more than 180 employees, Osso VR’s PEO, Justworks, became too expensive.

Plan restrictions: Osso VR sought more choice and control around the ancillary benefits outside of medical, dental, and vision.

Co-employment confusion: As the company moved off the PEO, Justworks disputed responsibility for handling some of Osso VR’s past tax accounts.

Lost admin access: Osso VR administrators struggled to access important documents through Justworks after the company moved off its PEO.

Lack of support: Employees thought dealing with healthcare overcharges with Justworks’ support team was more of a hassle than just paying the overcharge.

The Challenge

As Osso VR grew, prohibitive PEO costs weighed the forward-thinking healthcare tech company down. A board member urged the company to find a different payroll, benefits, and HR solution that would more affordably accommodate its 180 employees spread throughout 38 states.

And once company leaders informed Justworks they were moving on to a different solution, their old PEO made it difficult for Osso VR to access important administrative documents.

Jenn and her team, which had recently shrunk due to attrition, sought a more affordable, supportive HR solution with increased flexibility in benefits offerings and a seamless implementation, since time was of the essence.

The same board member who advised Osso VR to severties with its PEO suggested the company look into Rippling. Soon after, Osso VR made the switch and prospered.

Smooth implementation

Osso VR's new solution needed to be fully implemented and ready to run payroll in three months. Rippling hit their deadline successfully. "It went flawlessly," Jenn said, "Everybody went all in to help us."

Handy integrations, unencumbered benefits access

Osso VR now uses Bennie, which integrates seamlessly with Rippling, to access robust benefits packages that nurture a strong employee experience. The integration allows Jenn to get benefits offerings set up in Rippling well in advance of open enrollment and create benefit guides that help employees choose plans.

"It's been fantastic," Jenn said. "My favorite thing is how quickly the Rippling and Bennie systems talk to each other. We had a team of six people from Bennie working in a very condensed three-week window to make sure we had everything we needed to launch open enrollment on time."

Osso VR also got better ancillary benefits through Bennie's marketplace, which employees can use to optionally pay more for additional services. Such services include additional mental health and behavioral health services like Headspace Care (formerly Ginger), or Spot pet insurance.

More automations, less headcount constraints

Because of attrition, Osso VR went from eight HR and recruiting staff to just four. But thanks to Rippling, Jenn didn't need to fill any hiring gaps. "I don't think my responsibilities dramatically changed," Jenn said. "If anything, because of Rippling it was easier to absorb, automate, and offload the responsibilities that would've come my way," she mentioned, like building reports and setting task reminders that were once manually tracked on calendars.
