How The Channel Company unified its global workforce with Rippling

1 minute read

The Channel Company's former HR solution was merely sitting in the background as a "system of record", not a core part of the business or employee experience. As the company grew globally, they found that the tool couldn't scale with their workforce and made it difficult to access data across different employee locations. With Rippling, they now save time on HR tasks and manage their global workforce on one unified platform.

Meet The Channel Company

The Challenge

The Channel Company struggled to evolve its HR function to a unified global operation, a need that their previous system could not meet.

Their most significant barrier to scaling was siloed data, making it nearly impossible to gain a singular view of their global employee base. This forced them to navigate multiple, disparate systems to access data based on an employee’s location.

“As we grew globally, the biggest issue was the lack of cohesion and centralized data,” said Erika McGrath, Chief People Officer at The Channel Company. “We couldn't get data from a system in the US and easily see data for an employee in the UK.”

McGrath wanted a single system that could handle their growth and one that their employees could use without a learning curve.

The Solution

When it was time to make the switch, The Channel Company selected Rippling as their one platform to support HR, payroll, benefits, and global operations.

Rippling felt like it was at the forefront of HR technology; like it was the platform that could scale and grow with us as the business was growing, which was just a win for us.

Rippling's solution encompassed:

  1. A unified global HRIS: Rippling's core HRIS replaced their former HR system and served as the single source of truth for all employees globally. This addressed the critical pain point of lacking centralized data and cohesion across different countries.
  2. Global compliance and payroll: The Channel Company implemented a full suite of services, including:
    a. Domestic US Payroll and Benefits.
    b. Global Payroll in the US, UK, and Australia.
    c. Employer of Record (EOR) services for compliant expansion in Brazil, Japan, the UAE, and Canada.
  3. Global reporting: In McGrath's words, Rippling’s reporting capabilities are "absolutely phenomenal". The platform makes it easy to pull reports for the entire global organization and assists with headcount planning. A key feature for their global workforce is the ability to convert reports into different currencies with a single click.
  4. Expanded, integrated functionality: They consolidated and modernized several operational functions onto the platform, including Performance Management, Learning Management, Time & Attendance, Recruiting, and Surveys.
  5. AI-powered customer support: The recent implementation of an AI-powered customer support feature has provided quick, step-by-step guidance for complex tasks. The Channel Company describes it as a "super responsive, top notch customer service".
  6. Seamless employee experience and connectivity: Rippling now supports their entire employee journey, from onboarding and recruiting to offboarding. The Rippling feed also helps create a sense of community by celebrating milestones like work anniversaries and birthdays for geographically dispersed employees.
  7. Global Payroll in the US, UK, and Australia.
  8. Employer of Record (EOR) services for compliant expansion in Brazil, Japan, the UAE, and Canada.

“Once we were able to see what Rippling could do, and once we knew that it could support our global growth, we were sold,” McGrath told us.

The Result

By adopting Rippling, The Channel Company successfully centralized HR functions, improved employee experience, and significantly freed up time for their HR team to focus on more important aspects of the business.

Today, we are using Rippling as our central hub for everything HR.

One source of truth for data

“Today, we are using Rippling as our central hub for everything HR,” said McGrath. “This is the central hub for our employees, managers, HR, to do everything. And if you ask how it has changed our day to day, I would say honestly, it's changed everything. It really just puts everything in one place. It reduces time, manual work, processes and we have just found so much time savings from that so we can focus on the important things, and that is key for our business success.”

Improved employee experience

According to McGrath, “I absolutely love having our HR tech stack in one platform. It just makes everything easier for HR, for the employee experience, for the business. So from HR to payroll to benefits to time off to performance, learning and surveys, just to name a few. It is all in one place for employees to find and for us to manage throughout the business, which makes all the difference.”

AI-powered customer support

“One of my favorite features is the AI powered customer support feature,” said McGrath. “I had a complex report that I needed to run for leadership and wasn't quite sure how to do that. Emailed a note to the AI support and within ten minutes I was able to run that report.”

I absolutely love having our HR tech stack in one platform.
